If you're a subscribed member you can email other members, but if that seems a little daunting when you're new to online dating you can make use of the fun elements:

Send them a smiley face. You choose the smiley face, from Casual or Flirty to Pickup Lines and Wanna Meet? You also pick your message to go with your smile, such as 'Hey, what's up?', 'I liked your profile' or 'Hi, if I send an email will you email me back?'
Send them a card. There's a Most Popular section or you can search by category, such as Care and Concern, Friendship, Love and Romance and Pick up Lines. Choose the image and message you like most from the many cards available, personalize it and send - it couldn't be easier.
Send Sparks - this one is particularly good fun! Choose your recipient and select a message. Choose from categories such as Dream and Wishes, Off the Wall, Political Opinions, What If... and Personality. Then choose your question. Two examples from the personality category are 'How competitive are you?' and 'What is your pet peeve?'
If you're feeling shy at first then simply add your match to your Favorites and let them know you like them.
If you get on with your match and want to stay in touch them add them as a Friend and get chatting.

It's easy to keep tabs on who you're interested in and who's interested in you. Once you've signed up for free you'll have your own home page with an easy-view menu on the left hand side. This tallies up the number of emails you've received, who's messaged you or sent you a card. It also shows you who's viewed your profile.

If you've clicked Yes on someone and they've clicked Yes on you in return you'll be notified in the left hand menu so you can take the connection further via Sparks or email.

Other than your homepage the other three menu items are really simple. The first is Connect. This is where you can instant message people, view and post on message boards and join chat rooms. These areas are open to all subscribed members, so you never know who you'll meet or who might have something really interesting to say.

The second is Search. There are so many different ways to search on BBW Personals Plus if the Quick Search option isn't giving you the results you're looking for. There's the essential Advanced Search first of all, which allows you to look for someone based on more than what they look like, so if religion or education are important to you, search here. You can also find out if people smoke and whether or not they have children.

If you've completed your Advanced Search and just want to browse profiles randomly you can check who's online at the same time as you to see if you feel like making immediate contact. You can look at recently updated profiles too - perhaps someone has been absent for a while, uploaded a new picture or their situation has changed.

There's also a really fun Photo Shuffle option that displays random pictures of members. The photos are always good close ups, as the site managers must insist on this. Shuffle doesn't list any details about the member in the initial results, it displays 25 photos on a page and you can select the age range. Then you just keep on shuffling the images until someone takes your fancy!

Finally, you can also see who's got a birthday today, which is a nice touch as it makes the site seem even more friendly and caring than it already appears to be. Also, there's a section called Think You'd Click?, which also retrieves random profiles for you to click Yes or No on whether you're interested.

The third and final menu tab is Profile. Here you can add as much or as little about yourself as you want others to know and the site layout and questioning allows for a great deal of personal opinion and comment as well as a list of basic questions.

Other than letting people know who you are, your age and where you live, you can also tell them a bit about yourself - the color of your eyes, how tall you are, what you do for a living, whether or not you smoke or drink and how many languages you speak.

Once you've got the boring stuff out the way you can add some Fun Facts. These are the things that really let people know what you're about and if you have interests in common. Talk about your favorite music and movies, TV shows you like and what your political view is.

There are also a couple of fun questions to answer in this section, one of which is 'Are you a trendy person?' to which you can answer 'I don't need advice!' or 'I dress to be comfortable' amongst other responses.

There's a mixture of response mechanisms in this section, so you can tick numerous boxes, select from drop-down menus, or write your own text (e.g. when telling people, in your own words, what your ideal trip would be).

There's then an even more detailed section, which helps admirers understand what makes you tick and helps to make sure that your first date goes well. The Essays section asks questions like 'What would I like to do on a first date?', 'What good things have past relationships taught me?' and 'How would I describe my perfect day?'.

Another very nice touch is the Question of the Day. This can be very enlightening about a person, drawing you to them or perhaps making you realize you're not a match. You can answer this question yourself and you can also search for matches on this criteria - because the question changes every day, you'll never find this element of finding your perfect match boring!

As you'd expect, you can also set your Match Preferences in your Profile section, so if you want someone who has never been married or you want to meet someone of a certain ethnicity then this is where you specify your requirements to make sure your searches aren't full of people you'd never be interested in.

The only negative thing we can think to say about this site is that it's a little bit busy. However, it's designed to be used every day and as soon as you've set up your preferences and become accustomed to the features you like to use most we're sure this would cease to be an issue.
