We all like a visit Down Under now and then, and BBWaustralia.com aims to make your dreams come true! If you’re a bigger person, or looking to date a bigger person, either in Australia, New Zealand, the USA or the UK, this could be the website for you. With a range of impressive features at your disposal, this site helps you to chat with individuals and groups in a laid back, supportive atmosphere.

We were most impressed by the number and variety of features available on this website, especially those which allow you to chat with members outside of the usual private email. You can talk on forums or join chat rooms, as well as checking out blog posts and events in your area or further afield. If you’re a little shy this is great because it takes the pressure off when sending a person a personal message and rather you can get to know each other in a more social online setting. The events section in particular might be of interest if you’re hoping to meet up but don’t know too many people or you aren’t too sure that you’d like to meet 1 on 1 initially. 

Registration is quick, although you have to wait for your account to be verified by admin. This is a good sign as it means you won't be bothered by fake account holders, but it does slow the process down.You also have the issue of not knowing how much the various services will cost until admin decide to email you. This might also explain the relatively low membership numbers, which (when we wrote this review) were just below 8,000 members. This isn’t terrible, particularly if you’re based in Australia, but it wasn’t so great for the UK and USA. 

Profiles are quite bland but contain the necessary information. You can also write as little or as much as you like by way of introduction and can upload photos. These appear as (too) small thumbnails until another member clicks on them to zoom in, which isn’t ideal for attracting attention. Paying members can also use video, as well as the regular chat options, which makes upgrading quite attractive. As you browse profiles you can see whether someone is a free or paying member quite easily, which is useful.

There’s quite a bit of information to read, including articles and blog posts, but the key thing here is whether or not you are likely to get a date. Numbers are a bit low, but there are so many features to help you get chatting that we feel your chances are better than on some sites with higher numbers but fewer options. If they improved the photo quality and general profile design a little more we’d be much happier. But hey, it’s free to join and that ought to give a sense of whether or not you’re likely to find that special someone. 

BBW Australia suffers from slightly low subscription numbers and may need a slight redesign, however it has all the basics and a few great little features in place for paying members. It’s worth exploring, whether or not you eventually decide to become a paying member.
